Abe Fortas was a Supreme Court Justice from 1965 to 1969. He was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and was the first Jewish justice to serve on the court. Fortas was known for his progressive views on civil rights, free speech, and the separation of church and state. He also wrote several landmark decisions, including the 1966 ruling that struck down a Virginia law prohibiting interracial marriage. Fortas resigned from the court in 1969 due to a scandal involving a conflict of interest.
