The former Houston hockey team was the Aeros, a professional ice hockey team that played in the World Hockey Association from 1972 to 1978. The team was based in Houston, Texas and won two WHA championships during their time in the league. The Aeros were known for their high-scoring offense and were one of the most successful teams in the WHA. After the WHA folded in 1979, the Aeros were absorbed into the National Hockey League and became the Minnesota North Stars.
