The First Lady of the 1980s was Raisa Gorbachev, the wife of Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. She was a prominent figure in the Soviet Union and was known for her strong advocacy of women's rights and education. She was also an active participant in international diplomacy, attending many conferences and meetings with her husband. Raisa was the first Soviet First Lady to be widely recognized outside of the Soviet Union.
