The first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize was Jane ADDAMS, a social worker and activist who lived from 1860 to 1935. She was a pioneer in the fields of social work and peace activism, and was the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931 for her efforts to promote international peace. ADDAMS was also a leader in the women's suffrage movement and a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union.
