Explorer Hernando was a Spanish explorer who is most famous for his expeditions in the 16th century. He is known by two names, Hernando CORTEZ and Hernando de Soto. CORTEZ was the leader of the expedition that conquered the Aztec Empire in 1521, while de Soto led the first European expedition to explore the southeastern United States. Both of these expeditions were instrumental in the colonization of the Americas.
