Cortez was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who is best known for his expedition to the Americas in 1519. He is also known for his role in the fall of the AZTEC Empire, as he led the Spanish forces against the Aztecs. His expedition began with him sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, and he eventually reached the Gulf of Mexico, which he named the SEA of Cortez. He then marched inland and encountered the AZTEC Empire, led by Emperor Montezuma II. He eventually conquered the AZTEC Empire and founded the city of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, now known as Mexico City. Cortez also founded the city of Veracruz, which was named after his wife, Doña Marina, who was also known as La Malinche or ANA.
