Anwar El-Sadat was an Egyptian leader who served as the third President of Egypt from 1970 until his assassination in 1981. He is remembered for his role in the peace process with Israel, which resulted in the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty. El-Sadat was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978 for his efforts to create peace in the Middle East. He was also a key figure in the development of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of African Unity.
