Erasmus was a Dutch Renaissance scholar, theologian, and humanist who was born in Rotterdam in 1466. He is best known for his works 'The Praise of Folly' and 'Education of a Christian Prince'. He was an important figure in the development of Christian humanism and is considered one of the greatest scholars of the Northern Renaissance. He was also a key figure in the development of the modern European university system.
