Donna Shalala was a member of President Bill Clinton's cabinet, serving as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services from 1993 to 2001. She was the first woman to hold this position and was the longest-serving secretary in the history of the department. Shalala was also the first person to serve in two different cabinet positions in two different administrations. Prior to her appointment, she was the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
