Desmond of South Africa was an anti-apartheid activist and the first black Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town. He was born in Klerksdorp, Transvaal, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his work in opposing apartheid. His given name was TUTU, and he was a leader of the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Council of Churches. He was also a vocal advocate for the rights of the people of Lesotho, a small landlocked country surrounded by South Africa. He was also a leader in the struggle against apartheid in NATAL, a province in South Africa.
