The term 'Designer de la Renta' is a reference to the late fashion designer OSCAR de la Renta. He was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to Spain at the age of 18 to study painting. He later switched to fashion design, and in 1963 he moved to Paris to work for Lanvin. In 1965, he moved to New York City and began working for Elizabeth Arden. He eventually launched his own fashion label in 1972, and became one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. He was known for his elegant evening gowns and bridal wear, and was also the first American designer to dress a First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy. He passed away in 2014, but his legacy lives on through his iconic designs.
