A davenport or chesterfield is a type of SOFA. It is typically upholstered in leather or fabric and has a low back and arms. The term is derived from the 18th century English furniture maker Thomas Chippendale, who designed the first davenport. The chesterfield is similar to the davenport, but has more tufting and is usually made of leather. Both pieces of furniture are popular in traditional and modern homes alike.
