D-Day was the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. The beaches of Normandy were divided into five sections, codenamed Utah, Omaha, SWORD, JUNO, and Gold. Utah Beach was the westernmost beach and was assigned to the United States Army. Omaha Beach was the second beach from the west and was assigned to the United States Army and the United Kingdom's Second Army. SWORD Beach was the easternmost beach and was assigned to the British 3rd Infantry Division and the British 50th Infantry Division. JUNO Beach was the second beach from the east and was assigned to the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division and the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade. Finally, Gold Beach was the third beach from the west and was assigned to the British 50th Infantry Division and the 8th Armoured Brigade.
