He was known for his powerful batting and was nicknamed 'Slammin' Sammy' and 'Cubs' Sluggin' Sammy' due to his ability to hit home runs. During his time with the Cubs, he set the team record for most home runs in a single season with 66 in 1998. He was also a six-time All-Star and won the National League MVP award in 1998.
