The Cuban Revolution was led by Che Guevara, a Marxist revolutionary and guerrilla leader. He was an Argentine-born doctor who joined Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement in Mexico in 1955. Guevara played a key role in the Cuban Revolution, leading guerrilla forces in the Sierra Maestra mountains and helping to overthrow the US-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. After the revolution, Guevara held several government posts in Cuba, including Minister of Industry and President of the National Bank. He was also a major figure in the spread of Marxist-Leninist ideology throughout Latin America. Guevara was killed in Bolivia in 1967 while attempting to incite revolution there.
