In Massachusetts, it is located in the northeastern part of the state and is bordered by Suffolk County to the south and Middlesex County to the west. In England, Essex is located in the southeastern part of the country and is bordered by Suffolk to the north, Kent to the east, and Greater London to the west. Essex is the third-most populous county in England and the second-most populous county in Massachusetts.
