The term 'Corsica Hero' refers to the French military leader and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. He was born on the island of Corsica in 1769, and his career began when he joined the French army in 1785. He rose through the ranks quickly and eventually became the commander of the Army of Italy in 1796. He then led a successful campaign against the Austrians and their allies in northern Italy, and in 1799 he seized control of the government in a coup d'etat. He was crowned Emperor of France in 1804 and went on to conquer much of Europe. During his reign, he also annexed the Italian island of Elba and the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. He was eventually defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and exiled to the island of Saint Helena, where he died in 1821.
