Sir Georg Solti was a Hungarian-born British conductor, pianist, and composer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century, having won 31 Grammy Awards and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He was knighted in 1971 for his services to music and was made a life peer in 1992. He was the music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1969 to 1991 and the music director of the Royal Opera House from 1979 to 1983. He was also the principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 1979 to 1983.
