Claudio Arrau was a Chilean-born concert pianist who was renowned for his interpretations of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. He was born in 1903 and began studying piano at the age of five. He made his debut as a concert pianist in 1919 and went on to become one of the most celebrated pianists of the 20th century. He was known for his technical mastery and lyrical expression, and he performed extensively throughout Europe, the United States, and Latin America. He died in 1991 at the age of 88.
