Atari was an American video game and home computer company founded in 1972. It is best known for its iconic arcade game Pong, which was released in 1972 and is widely considered to be the first successful video game. Atari also released a home version of Pong in 1975, which was the first commercially available video game console. The company went on to produce a number of other popular games, including Asteroids, Missile Command, and Centipede. Atari eventually went bankrupt in 2013, but its legacy lives on in the form of its classic games and consoles.
