Columbine is a flower that has been used in many different contexts throughout history. AQUILEGIA, also known as columbine, is a genus of about 60–70 species of perennial plants that are found in meadows, woodlands, and at higher altitudes throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The most famous columbine is the one associated with the tragic 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Colorado, USA. The shooter, Eric Harris, was wearing a T-shirt with the columbine flower on it. The other two crossword solutions, Moore and Pierrot, are both related to the columbine flower. Moore is the surname of the English poet and novelist Thomas Moore, who wrote a poem called 'Columbine's Courtship' in 1818. Pierrot is a stock character from French pantomime, often depicted wearing a white costume with a ruffled collar and a black hat, and carrying a columbine flower.
