Donna Shalala was a member of President Bill Clinton's cabinet, serving as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services from 1993 to 2001. She was the first woman to hold this position and was responsible for overseeing the Department of Health and Human Services, which is the United States government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services. Shalala was also the longest-serving Secretary of Health and Human Services in U.S. history.
