The Clancy Protagonist is John Patrick Ryan, a character created by author Tom Clancy. He is a former Marine Corps officer and CIA analyst who appears in many of Clancy's novels. Ryan is a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and has held various positions in the United States government, including Deputy Director of Central Intelligence and Secretary of Defense. He is also the father of Jack Ryan Jr., another popular Clancy character.
