Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist who famously refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. This act of defiance sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped launch the civil rights movement. Medgar Evers was another civil rights activist who worked to end segregation in Mississippi. He was assassinated in 1963, but his legacy lives on in the form of the Medgar Evers Institute, which works to promote civil rights and social justice.
