Medgar Evers was a civil rights activist who worked to end racial segregation and discrimination in the United States. He was born in Mississippi in 1925 and served in World War II before becoming an active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He was assassinated in 1963, but his legacy lives on in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which he helped to pass.
