Larissa is a city in Thessaly, Greece. It is the capital of the Larissa regional unit and the second-largest city in the region after Volos. It is located in the center of the Thessalian plain, approximately 17 km (11 mi) south of the city of Volos. It has a population of around 200, 000 people and is an important agricultural, commercial, and transportation hub for the region. It is also home to several universities and other educational institutions.
