Citi Field's forerunner was Shea Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium located in the New York City borough of Queens. It was the home of the New York Mets from 1964 to 2008 and hosted the Beatles' famous 1965 concert. It was also the site of two World Series championships and the U.S. Open tennis tournament. The stadium was named after William A. Shea, the man who was instrumental in bringing National League baseball back to New York.
