The Three Gorges DAM is a hydroelectric DAM located in the Yangtze River in China. It is the world's largest power station in terms of installed capacity, with a total capacity of 22, 500 MW. The DAM spans the river between the cities of Yichang and Sandouping in Hubei province. Construction began in 1994 and was completed in 2006. The DAM has been controversial due to its environmental impact, including the displacement of over 1.3 million people and the flooding of archaeological and cultural sites.
