Howard Pyle was an American illustrator and children's author from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for his classic adventure stories and illustrations, such as The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood and Otto of the Silver Hand. He also wrote several books on art instruction, including The Art of Illustration. Pyle was a major influence on the development of children's literature in the United States.
