Charles Lindbergh was an American aviator who made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. He became a national hero and was nicknamed 'Lucky Lindy'. In 1932, his son Charles Jr. was kidnapped and held for ransom. Lindbergh paid the ransom, but his son was found dead two months later. The crime was never solved, but it was believed to have been committed by a German immigrant named Bruno Hauptmann. Hauptmann was convicted of the crime and executed in 1936. The term 'Ransomer' is used to describe Lindbergh, as he paid the ransom for his son's release.
