Walt Kelly was an American cartoonist and animator best known for his comic strip 'Pogo'. He was born in 1913 and worked in animation for Walt Disney Studios before creating the comic strip in 1948. He was also a political cartoonist and wrote for various magazines. His work was widely praised and he won numerous awards, including the Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year in 1954. He died in 1973.
