The capital in the Himalayas is Lhasa, a city located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It is one of the highest cities in the world, situated at an elevation of 3, 490 meters (11, 450 feet). Lhasa is known for its many Buddhist temples and monasteries, including the Potala Palace, which was the former residence of the Dalai Lama.
