Canadian physician William Osler was a renowned medical doctor and professor who is widely considered to be the father of modern medicine. He was born in Ontario, Canada in 1849 and studied at the University of Toronto and McGill University. He was a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, and Oxford University. Osler is credited with introducing the practice of bedside clinical teaching and was one of the first physicians to recognize the importance of preventive medicine. He was also a prolific author, publishing over 400 articles and books on medical topics. Osler died in 1919 and is remembered for his contributions to the field of medicine.
