The Oldsmobile division of General Motors was a bygone GM division. It was founded in 1897 and was the oldest surviving brand of automobile in the United States until it was discontinued in 2004. Oldsmobile was known for its innovative technology, such as the first mass-produced car with an automated transmission and the first car to feature a fully automatic transmission. The division also produced some of the most popular cars of the 20th century, including the Cutlass, the Toronado, and the 442.
