A butterfly pupa, also known as a CHRYSALIS, is the stage of a butterfly's life cycle between the larva and adult stages. It is a protective casing that the caterpillar creates for itself before it undergoes metamorphosis. The CHRYSALIS is usually green or brown in color and is made up of a hard outer shell with a soft inner layer. Inside the CHRYSALIS, the caterpillar undergoes a complete transformation into an adult butterfly.
