Heywood Broun was an American journalist, sports writer, and social activist. He was a founding member of the American Newspaper Guild and wrote for the New York World and the New York Tribune. He was known for his progressive views on labor and civil rights, and was a vocal critic of the Vietnam War. He was also a noted sports writer, covering boxing, baseball, and football. He was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in 1975.
