British Runner Steve Ovett is a former British middle-distance runner who won gold medals in the 800 metres and 1500 metres at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. He also held world records in both events and was the first athlete to hold world records in both the 800 metres and the mile simultaneously. Ovett was known for his fierce rivalry with fellow British runner Sebastian Coe, which was dubbed the 'Ovett-Coe rivalry'. He retired from competitive running in 1992 and was inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
