The Brazilian airline industry is composed of four major airlines: VARIG (Viacao Aerea Rio-Grandense), RIO (Rio Sul Linhas Aereas), NATAL (NATAL Transportes Aereos) and SAMBA (SAMBA Airlines). VARIG is the oldest and largest Brazilian airline, founded in 1927. RIO is a regional airline based in Rio de Janeiro, while NATAL is a regional airline based in NATAL. SAMBA is a low-cost carrier based in Sao Paulo. All four airlines offer domestic and international flights to destinations throughout Brazil and abroad.
