The Belgian Treaty City of Ghent is a city in the Flemish region of Belgium. It is the capital and largest city of East Flanders and is located at the confluence of the Scheldt and Leie rivers. Ghent is known for its medieval architecture, which includes the 12th-century Gravensteen castle and the 15th-century Belfry of Ghent. In 1814, Ghent was the site of the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812 between the United Kingdom and the United States.
