Beach residue can include a variety of materials, such as ASH, ASHES, LINT, and SLAG. ASH is a fine powdery substance that is the result of burning organic material, such as wood or coal. ASHES are the solid remains of a fire, usually consisting of charred wood, coal, or other combustible material. LINT is small pieces of fabric or fibers that are created when clothes are washed or dried. SLAG is a byproduct of metal smelting and is composed of impurities that have been separated from the metal during the smelting process. All of these materials can be found on beaches, either naturally occurring or left behind by beachgoers.
