BBC Pioneer refers to the first Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), John Reith. Reith was appointed in 1922 and served until 1938. He was responsible for establishing the BBC as a major broadcasting organization, setting up its first radio stations and introducing the idea of public service broadcasting. He also established the BBC's first news department and was instrumental in the development of the BBC's television service.
