Evan Bayh is an American politician who served as the 45th Governor of Indiana from 1989 to 1997 and as a United States Senator from 1999 to 2011. He is the son of Birch Bayh, who served in the U.S. Senate from 1963 to 1981. Evan Bayh was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Indiana in 1988 and was re-elected in 1992. During his tenure as Governor, he focused on improving the state's economy and infrastructure. He also worked to reduce the state's debt and increase its investment in education. After leaving office, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998 and served two terms. During his time in the Senate, he was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council.
