AVERAGES measure the number of RUNS, hits, and other statistics a player accumulates over a certain period of time. ERAS measure the number of earned RUNS a pitcher gives up per nine innings. RUNS refer to the number of times a player scores a point for their team. OUTS refer to the number of times a player is put out during a game. Hits refer to the number of times a player successfully gets on base. RBIS refer to the number of RUNS a player scores for their team. ATBATS refer to the number of times a player attempts to hit the ball. Assists refer to the number of times a player helps another player make a play.
