Baseball's Hideo Nomo is a former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1995 to 2008. He was the first Japanese-born player to appear in MLB since 1965, and his success in the United States helped to increase the popularity of baseball in Japan. Nomo was known for his unique pitching style, which included a 'TORNADO' windup and a powerful fastball. He was a four-time All-Star and won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1995.
