Lin Yutang was a Chinese author, philosopher, and inventor. He is best known for his humorous essays and novels about Chinese culture. He wrote over 40 books in both English and Chinese, including the classic novel The Importance of Living. He also invented the first Chinese typewriter. Yutang was an advocate for democracy and human rights in China. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1938.
