Kingsley AMIS was an English novelist, poet, critic, and teacher. He is best known for his novel Lucky Jim, published in 1954. AMIS wrote more than twenty novels, as well as collections of poetry and short stories. He also wrote several works of non-fiction, including The James Bond Dossier and The King's English. AMIS was awarded the Booker Prize in 1986 for his novel The Old Devils. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1990.
