Isabel Allende is a Chilean-American author who has written numerous novels, short stories, and non-fiction works. She is best known for her novel The House of the Spirits, which was published in 1982 and has since been adapted into a feature film. Allende is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Book Award for Fiction in 1988 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
