Georges Seurat was a French Post-Impressionist painter and draftsman. He is best known for devising the painting techniques known as chromoluminarism and pointillism. Seurat's most famous work, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, is one of the icons of late 19th-century painting. His use of small, distinct points of pure color to create a larger image has been an influence on many later artists.
