Arthur Ashe was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam titles. He is remembered as the first African American to win the men's singles title at the US Open in 1968 and the first African American to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985. Ashe was also a successful doubles player, winning the men's doubles title at the French Open in 1975 with partner Tony Roche. His nickname was 'The Little General' due to his tactical approach to the game.
