The Uzi is a submachine gun developed in Israel by Major Uziel Gal in the late 1940s. It was one of the first weapons to use a telescoping bolt design which allowed the magazine to be housed in the pistol grip for a shorter weapon. The Uzi was adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces in 1954 and has since become one of the most popular submachine guns in the world. It is still used by the Israeli military today as part of the arm of Israel.
